If you have a medical emergency in the McKinney, Plano, or Allen areas and need help fast, you need look no further than The ER at Craig Ranch. Located at 6045 Alma Road in McKinney, The ER at Craig Ranch has all the leading-edge equipment and technology of a hospital emergency room plus an experienced team of ER doctors without the five-hour wait and exorbitant medical bills.
Code 3 Emergency Physicians at The ER at Craig Ranch jumped at the opportunity in May 2015 to join together and form their own privately owned stand-alone emergency room in Craig Ranch. Their reasons were simple and sound—McKinney is a growing and thriving area, and there was a need for quality emergency care in the community.
The ER at Craig Ranch sits across the street from the Craig Ranch development and next to the Michael Johnson Sports Center, a 24,000-square-foot sports training facility, which trains athletes from the Dallas Cowboys, FC Dallas, and Dallas Stars as well as a growing number of beginning athletes ranging from nine to 18 years of age.
The ER at Craig Ranch is centrally located near the Dr Pepper Star Center Ice Arena, baseball fields, and soccer fields, where quality emergency care for sports injuries is in high demand.
Peter Brokish, MD, FACEP, a physician at The ER at Craig Ranch, told a story about a patient who came over from the hockey rink with a dislocated shoulder. “We were able to X-ray her shoulder and put it back in place and send her on her way within about 20 minutes,” he said. “It’s nice to be able to offer that kind of care to our patients.”
The team at The ER at Craig Ranch puts a great deal of emphasis on offering extraordinary and compassionate patient care in a state-of-the-art medical facility.
Dr. Brokish noted, “What sets us apart from other ER facilities is our commitment to personal service.
“Patients have the opportunity to sit down with a doctor during their visits and have a real conversation about their medical conditions,” Dr. Brokish continued. “They are allowed and even encouraged to ask questions, and our doctors make a real effort to build a relationship with each and every patient.”
In addition, unlike many stand-alone ER facilities, every doctor at The ER at Craig Ranch is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. As a privately owned facility, its partners carefully chose their patient care team from nurses and technicians to front desk and paramedics. Patients are treated to a friendly and professional team eager to meet their medical needs and answer any questions.
“Dr. Brokish and the nurses were kind, calming and explained everything they were doing and why, while tending to my injury,” said Donna K. of McKinney. “There was no wait. . . We were in and out in less than 30 minutes!”
Their no-wait policy is just one of the many things that sets them apart from other stand-alone ER facilities in the area. They believe that sick patients should not be subjected to long hours in crowded waiting rooms. Patients at The ER at Craig Ranch are screened promptly upon arrival and quickly moved to examination rooms for their workups.
One feature that sets The ER at Craig Ranch apart from simple urgent care facilities is its ability to handle virtually every situation a traditional hospital emergency room can handle. They offer CT scans, ultrasounds, and X-rays as well as standard blood tests, EKGs, urinalysis, strep, and flu tests.
The ER at Craig Ranch also offers some features not offered by traditional emergency rooms. E-prescribe, an electronic prescribing system, which allows the doctors to send patients’ prescriptions quickly and efficiently to their pharmacy of choice, effectively saves patients a step and expedites the prescription filling process—an important feature for patients who are sick and/or in pain.
In addition, they offer an option for patients who need additional care beyond a typical ER visit but whose conditions are not serious enough to be admitted to the hospital. Observation Status allows patients to continue their care in the ER for several additional hours. Typically most patients feel much better and are able to go home. Infrequently, patients may need to be admitted to a hospital for extended care if their symptoms do not improve during this observation period.
In a hospital ER setting, a patient is either discharged or admitted, with no option in between. And being admitted can be an extremely costly option. Observation Status offers patients a third solution in order to give patients the peace of mind of having doctors close at hand without being admitted to the hospital with all the accompanying expenses.
Finally, the remarkable team of doctors at The ER at Craig Ranch gives back to their patients through community participation and service. In November, they sponsored a Flu Shot Drive during which they vaccinated 175 people in three hours! In addition, they gave away first-aid kits at Red, White and Boom, McKinney’s July 4th Festival, and participated in McKinney’s Public Safety Open House in May 2015.
