Determining whether your medical crisis warrants a trip to the emergency room or a visit to the nearest urgent care center is a decision you should never have to make. Thanks to E-Care Emergency Centers, they’ll make that determination for you. As a combined freestanding emergency and urgent care center, E-Care can provide whichever level of care you need—and you’ll not pay for care you don’t.
If you’ve ever gone to a hospital emergency room to see if your child’s arm is broken, waited for what seems like hours among strangers to see a harried doctor and then waited even longer to get X-rays, E-Care Emergency Center is a welcome change. If you’ve ever gone to an urgent care facility thinking you had heartburn, only to find out it was something more serious, E-Care is for you, too.
As a self-contained, fully-equipped, state-licensed, free-standing emergency and urgent care facility, the professional team can give their full attention to the immediate needs of each patient. Since there are no in-patient beds, you don’t have to wait behind hospital patients to access their onsite CT scans, ultrasounds, digital radiology or lab. You’ll get results efficiently and accurately with personalized care. “Our philosophy is simple and yet unique: placing urgent care and emergency services under one roof and one governing body lets us operate smoothly and efficiently,” said Robert Rankins, M.D., founder of E-Care. “Our patients and our teams will tell you—it’s a better solution that works.”

Meet Lance Burns, MD, medical director of E-Care in Frisco
As the son of a U.S. Navy medic, Dr. Burns grew up hearing stories about his father’s exploits, which inspired his own career path. When he decided to become a doctor, a natural fit for his personality was emergency medicine. “I like the immediate gratification emergency care offers,” Dr. Burns said. “When someone is broken, you fix them. The flexible schedule of the emergency physician allows for guaranteed quality family time and travel, another big benefit of this field.”
Dr. Burns graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Baylor and was formerly the director of a level-II trauma center, chairman of a 220-bed hospital medicine department, consultant for the Arizona Medical Board, and an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine. He and his family relocated to Texas in 2013. “What I love about E-Care is it allows me to care for the people who live in my neighborhood,” he said. “We are building an Emergency Practice. Living and working in the same neighborhood and sharing common ground with our client families add to the satisfaction of work at Frisco E-Care.”
E-Care of Frisco often sees patients who don’t have a primary care physician. “We’re able to refer patients to doctors in the area we trust provide good follow-up care,” Dr. Burns said. “We’re not competing with primary care physicians; our services augment them. If you’re ill and aren’t able to see your usual doctor, we can provide care, but you don’t have to worry about paying emergency room rates for an urgent care situation. We assess our patients and communicate to them the level of care needed to make them feel better.”
As director of E-Care Frisco, Dr. Burns has assembled a team of professionals devoted to patient care that performs efficiently. “Patients are not just patients, they’re clients,” he said. “Our goal is to have our clients experience the E-Care difference—a level of care, compassion, service and total satisfaction they won’t receive elsewhere. If something needs to be done for the patient, the entire center is geared for the person who comes in the door. It’s a concept that works and really works well.”
