“Climbing Kilimanjaro was really about fulfilling two dreams.” says Dr. Michael Fisher. “I wanted to challenge myself and our kids to do something we had never done before, and seemed well beyond our limits. And I also wanted to raise awareness and support for the causes we hold dear in South Africa.”
Those causes are varied, but the two primary ministries Dr. Fisher supports in South Africa are Rehoboth Children’s Village, a home for orphans affected by HIV and AIDS, and the fully equipped and functional dental clinic he established. “I know I’m blessed to be able to do what I do here at home, taking care of great patients and their needs,” says Dr. Fisher. “But I’m doubly-blessed to be able to give back and use those same gifts on the other side of the world to help others in need.”
Dr. Fisher’s Rockwall office integrates leading edge technology such as digital radiography, cosmetic imaging, intra-oral cameras and dental lasers. All this in an environment that’s as relaxed and comfortable as your own home, with personal satellite HDTV in each room to watch while you’re there. Dr. Fisher and his caring team of Cindy, Shanda, Kathy, Glenda, Donna, Chris and Beth provide all aspects of dentistry, from cleanings and check-ups, to cosmetic dentistry and smile make-overs, to implant and reconstructive dentistry, to endodontics (root canal treatment) and even sleep apnea/snoring treatment. Knowing affordability is important, all traditional insurances are accepted and financing plans are available.
Originally from nearby Greenville, Dr. Fisher is a long-time resident of the Lake Ray Hubbard community and a member of Lake Pointe Church, where he co-teaches an Adult Life Group and serves on the elder board. He actively supports numerous local ministries and charities, and is a past president of the Board of the Pregnancy Resource Centers of Rockwall and Mesquite. Dr. Fisher maintains ongoing ministry relationships in South Africa, Haiti, Russia and Mexico where he travels to work with local churches, provide emergency dental services to the local under-served population, and teach area dentists.
A 1986 graduate of Texas A&M University and a 1990 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry, Dr. Fisher also completed a post-graduate AEGD residency at Baylor in 1991. Since then, he has completed many hundreds of hours of advanced training in cosmetic and implant dentistry. He has performed countless smile-makeovers, as seen on his website, and has placed and restored over 3000 dental implants, providing his patients the unparalleled convenience that comes from offering all phases of their treatment in the same office.
Married for 28 years to his high school sweetheart Carla, they have two children: Landon, a senior at Texas A&M University who will be pursuing law school in the fall, and Monica, a senior at RHHS who will be going to Texas A&M in the fall, and on to dental school after that. Dr. Fisher’s interests include ministry and mission work, photography, hunting, history, reading, restoring a 1959 Austin-Healey with his Dad, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Dr. Fisher has established a fully-functional and mobile dental clinic to reach the underserved people of South Africa. He has also worked with close friend Ken Hickman and his THEMBA Foundation over the last many years to support Rehoboth Children’s Village in South Africa, a home that raises children affected by HIV and AIDS. Together, Dr. Fisher’s office has raised and given over $50,000 to these projects, while Mr. Hickman’s foundation has raised and contributed over $350,000 to these and other projects that serve and minister to the people of the region.
