Dental Health Arlington
When Nancy Blinn took the reigns as executive director of Dental Health Arlington in 2014, Dr. Amy Schoening was already a longtime volunteer and board member for the nonprofit dental organization. “Dr. Schoening and her husband, Andrew, have been some of our biggest financial backers for over twenty years. She also donates her time caring for patients and even offered to stay on in her position as president of the board of directors to help me get my footing as executive director.” Nancy said.
DHA is a non-profit organization that has been providing dental treatment for low-income individuals for little to no out of pocket cost for almost 30 years in Tarrant County. The clinic serves almost 3000 patients a year and DHA’s award winning SMILES program provides dental education, screening, fluoride, sealants, and toothbrushes (sometimes the only one kids have ever owned) to approximately 10,000 at risk Arlington elementary school children annually.
In 2017 DHA learned they would have to relocate from their longtime location to the United Way Human Service Center in central Arlington. While the move would allow them to reach their demographics group more easily, the suddenness of the move created problems. “A move like that can be very expensive and concerning without the time to launch a proper capital campaign but the Schoenings were quick to donate the initial funds which led to other businesses and individuals matching. With the move completed, we have been able to continue providing quality care for our patients in need. After the opening of the new facility, the decision was then made to name the clinic portion of the business after the Schoenings in appreciation for all they have meant to DHA over the years.” Nancy said.
Meet Dr. Schoening
Dr. Amy Schoening feels privileged to be able to work in a career she loves and make a difference for families in her community. “I have the skill to truly transform someone’s life by giving them a smile they can feel confident about, this is what has made dentistry my passion for 25 years. Dentistry also allows me to build relationships, not only with my patients but with their entire families and those relationships have made it a positive journey for everyone involved. I have experience and enjoyed a large, busy practice but recently I have slowed things down with a smaller, more intimate boutique style practice in Mansfield. Having a supportive family and team that have stayed with me for the duration has allowed me to refocus on my visions of caring for individuals one patient at a time. It also gives me time to devote to Dental Health Arlington and other interests that are important to me. We welcome new patients that will appreciate this style of practice and we are here to help with all of your dental needs.”
Dr. Schoening believes in taking the time to tune into each patient and her patients hail her as a dentist who pays attention to the smallest detail, always taking the time to treat them as respected individuals. She and her husband, Andrew, are very proud of their two grown children who both graduated from The Oakridge School in Arlington and one has graduated from college and the other is attending now. Dr. Schoening enjoys reading, yoga and traveling to a favorite location in Big Sky, Montana.
