Direct Orthopedic Care

“Anything Orthopedic Every Day of the Week”

David Hassinger, Founder and CEO of Direct Orthopedic Care, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who through experience and observation recognized the need for better patient access to specialists. He witnessed the terrible inefficiency involved when patients in need of a specialist were forced to travel a laborious road from hospital, to doctor, to specialist. Thus, Direct Orthopedic Care (DOC) was created to give patients direct access to orthopedic specialists—high quality care that eliminates a time-consuming and cost exorbitant process.

Dr. Hassinger opened the first of several clinics in Boise, Idaho, in 2014 and will have six locations in DFW by the end of the year. The facilities offer direct access to orthopedic specialists at low cost office visit rates. There are no facility fees, no surprise bills, and no appointment needed. In a recent case, a patient with a painful dislocated shoulder drove hours to DOC in order to avoid the ordeal he’d endure had he gone to a local emergency room or doctor’s office. Once at the clinic, the patient received immediate care and instant relief at a fraction of the cost of the traditional route to care. Dr. Hassinger understands the challenges in getting care for orthopedic injuries, and by opening more locations, future patients won’t have to drive long distances for immediate solutions.

Currently, Direct Orthopedic Care has locations in Las Colinas, West Plano, and Frisco. McKinney, Denton, and Southlake are slated to open before year end. DOC also has two facilities in Austin, one in Southern California, and more openings planned over the next several months. DOC works in concert with numerous primary care physicians, urgent care locations, and school athletic trainers. DOC is a sponsor of the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association and co-founders of the Plano Sports Authority Coaches That Care program that recognizes volunteer coaches in the community.

While some may think of DOC as an orthopedic urgent care facility, it is so much more. From acute injuries to chronic conditions, the facilities can treat any type of orthopedic issue. DOC features a compliment of on-site orthopedic specialists as well as a team of over twenty orthopedic surgeon partners offering a variety of sub-specialties. Recently, a patient in need of injection therapy for chronic joint pain was unable to get an appointment with her regular doctor in time to make a holiday travel reservation. As an alternative, the patient stopped at DOC, which doesn’t require an appointment. DOC was able to accommodate her need in just a few minutes, eliminating the pain she would have otherwise had to endure on vacation.

Direct Orthopedic Care focuses on a team approach to patient care—the DFW facilities offer access to orthopedic specialty-trained physician assistants, digital X-ray and ultrasound, as well as over two dozen board certified orthopedic surgeons. The offices are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
