Patients love Dental Designs by Alisa Reed, and after just one visit, so will you. Best of all, you’ll know you’ve found your new dental home. The care and compassion the team has for their patients are incomparable, the office atmosphere is welcoming and upbeat, and the quality of the dentistry is unparalleled.
“We love what we do and feel fulfilled by helping others through dentistry,” says Dr. Reed.
“It brings us joy knowing we’re making a difference in our patients’ lives and helping our community,” Dr. Smith adds.
It’s no wonder patients happily refer friends and family to Drs. Reed and Smith and those who saw them as kids continue to see them as adults. Even patients who have moved away travel miles to their dental appointments instead of changing dentists. This speaks volumes about the dentists, their team, and the quality of care they provide.
Comfortable Dentistry in a No-judgement Zone
Known for their compassion, empathy, and gentle chair-side manner, Drs. Reed and Smith regularly see new patients who are anxious about visiting the dentist. Often, due to fear they’ve developed, they’ve put off seeing the dentist for a while, sometimes years.
“Many people come to us having had a negative dental experience elsewhere, either during childhood, as adults, or both. Others may not have encountered this but have heard about bad experiences from friends or family. Whatever the reason is behind their fear and anxiety, it’s real, and we’re out to change how they perceive dentistry and dental appointments,” Dr. Smith says.
Dr. Reed adds, “We never judge someone who hasn’t been to the dentist for some time, and we don’t lecture. Instead, we welcome them with open arms and do everything in our power to earn their trust and help them feel comfortable and well-cared for when they’re with us.”
With patient comfort a top priority, the dentists and their team start by listening to patients and taking ample time to understand their concerns and help allay their fears. They also understand that fear of the unknown can fuel anxiety. “We work through a patient’s anxiety and fear and build trust and rapport with them. We’ve also found that a conversation about expectations helps immensely,” Dr. Smith explains. “Knowing what to expect from us and what their dental care entails lessens anxiety.”
“It’s very gratifying when a patient who came to us feeling fearful now walks in with a sense of comfort and ease,” Dr. Reed says. “For example, one new patient hadn’t been to the dentist for a while and needed restorative work that included crowns, implants, and endodontics. At first, he practically shook in the dental chair. Now he arrives for appointments with a big smile. He shares pictures of his kids and family and feels right at home.”
Sedation Dentistry Brings Peace of Mind
Whether they feel anxious about getting dental work done or not, patients are comforted that Dental Designs by Alisa Reed offers sedation dentistry when appropriate.
“Some patients are fine with nitrous oxide — laughing gas — alone while others need oral conscious sedation to feel comfortable. And for some, we may even combine the two, using just a light dose of nitrous oxide,” Dr. Smith says.
With oral conscious sedation, you need to get a ride to and from your appointment. Upon arrival at the office, you’ll take a pill (Halcion) that helps you feel calm, relaxed, and somewhat groggy. You’ll typically know what’s happening and be able to communicate with your dentist but may not remember much about the procedure afterward.
Dr. Smith adds, “Sometimes patients are more concerned about experiencing pain after a procedure than discomfort in the dental chair. We can prescribe medication when warranted to help address post-procedure pain.”
Drs. Reed and Smith use advanced technology to provide state-of-the-art dentistry, but did you know it makes dentistry more comfortable during and after your appointment, too? For example, the dentists use photobiomodulation — a form of light therapy — when treating TMD/TMJ patients to help decrease the inflammatory response after dental work and reduce the likelihood of a TMD flare-up.
They also use lasers to decontaminate treatment areas during routine procedures to help eliminate the possibility of inflammation and ease discomfort. And using a laser during endodontic treatment takes root canal therapy to a new level.
