Debbie explains that applying the “Rule of 100” as a guideline, this can help clients balance risk based on age. “The concept is that if you are, for example, 60 years old, 60 percent of your portfolio should be conservatively invested, and 40 percent, depending on how comfortable you are with risk, could be directed to higher risk market-based investments. If you’re 50, then a 50/50 ‘rule’ applies, and so on,” she says.
