Dr. David Dyslin is in the business of changing lives. From a young age, he witnessed the difference a dedicated doctor can have in the lives of his patients and the ones they love. “My inspiration to pursue medicine came when I was very young,” he said. “My best friend’s father was a surgeon. He loved what he did and he was loved by the community. He was driven to help other people and make their lives better. Growing up watching him led me to believe there was no better service I could offer to those around me than to improve their lives through medicine.”

The medical field in which Dr. Dyslin chose to make his mark is Bariatric Surgery. “Bariatric Surgery enables me to offer my patients the opportunity to lead healthier, fuller, more productive lives,” he said. “I am able to partner with my patients in their success, to empower them to take their health into their own hands and see how happy and full their lives can become.”

At a time when 64% of Americans are considered overweight—even obese, Dr. Dyslin specializes in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, laparoscopic gastric bypass and conversion of lap band patients to either sleeve or bypass to offer his patients the jumpstart they need to gain control of their weight and head off serious weight-related conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis, incontinence, respiratory problems, hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, reflux and depression.

Post-surgery Dr. Dyslin and his staff follow all patients on an ongoing basis, to help assure they have the tools they need for post-operative success. “We make every effort to educate the patients about the surgical process beforehand, what to expect and how to succeed after having a surgical procedure,” he said. “Post-surgery they have access to my nurse or me, whenever they’re in need of help. I focus on providing techniques that reduce pain by medication delivery or by using smaller incisions, whenever possible to get my patients back to their families and their lives more quickly. My staff joins me in my mission is to provide compassionate, cutting-edge surgical care in a supportive and caring environment.”

Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Dyslin also performs robotic surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction for hernia repair as well as laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery. He performs surgery at USMD Hospital at Arlington and Methodist Mansfield Medical Center.

When not on the job, Dr. Dyslin and his wife enjoy being outdoors walking, hiking and gardening. “We have a black lab who accompanies us whenever possible,” he said. “Our children are just recently both in college, so we’ve been adjusting to a quieter lifestyle. We also enjoy creating gourmet meals to pair with good wine, traveling to see our children in college and catching up with their lives.”

A firm believer in giving back, Dr. Dyslin participates in medical mission trips in Haiti and Nicaragua with his church and attends meetings to improve care in resource-limited environments. “These activities always remind me how blessed we are to live in Texas and of our obligation to share our time and talent with those less fortunate”, he said. “Providing care in collaboration with native surgeons in developing countries is far more important than coming in with your own agenda, which may not be well received. The cultural sensitivity I learn there can be an important skill in Texas as well.” Dr. Dyslin also participates in Project Access Tarrant County, providing medical and surgical services to working patients who are unable to obtain insurance.

A Tennessee native, Dr. Dyslin graduated from The University of Virginia, Charlottesville and Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is currently accepting new patients.
