T

he holiday rush and excitement is in full swing. That means a new year is right around the corner. Even after eating your fill of homemade holiday goodies, it is possible to dramatically transform the way you look and feel at your local boutique fitness studio, Club Pilates Memorial. Accommodating all ages, shapes, fitness levels, and physical conditions, Club Pilates Memorial offers a bright start to your new year, with fresh mental clarity and exhilarating rejuvenation.

Elisa Pontone and her brother Nate opened the first Club Pilates studio in Texas in 2015, growing their fitness franchise to three Houston-area locations in Memorial, Katy and The Heights. Their popular Club Pilates approach emphasizes proper posture, core stability, and muscle balance while connecting mind, body, and spirit through breath control.

Gift-Giving Made Easy – Packages, Memberships, and Workshops

Finding the perfect gift can be a challenge, but Club Pilates makes it easy with a variety of gift card and package options. For that hard-to-buy-for friend that has everything, the gift of Pilates is a fun choice promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. Choose between packages of five or ten classes, or purchase a Club Pilates membership for family members or friends. Unlimited Club Pilates membership has its perks – members can take classes at any of Elisa’s three Club Pilates locations.

Gift cards can be customized by purchasing your choice of combined or individual classes, memberships, or monthly workshops. Educational workshops feature a different practitioner and topic every month, free of charge for members and a nominal fee for non-members.

Healthy Mind, Healthy Body

Regular exercise is vital to both mental and physical health. Frequent, gentle stretching and resistance training can increase and maintain muscle mass as we age, and has also proven beneficial for bone density. “Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned expert, there’s a Pilates class to suit everyone’s needs,” Lexi Stinger explains. Lexi is the regional manager and certified instructor at the Katy, Memorial, and The Heights studios. She fell in love with Pilates after an autoimmune diagnosis and has personally experienced the way it’s improved her quality of life.

“Pilates deepened my passion for fitness, nutrition, and wellness. It challenged my body in a beneficial way that corrected alignment and rebalanced muscles,” she says. A firm believer in the vast benefits of Pilates, Lexi was inspired to share it with others. Her goal as an instructor is to empower others to become their strongest, most powerful healthy selves.

Engaging the Body’s Powerhouse

Pilates concentrates on five aspects of training: strength, flexibility, balance, cardio, and mental training. A reformer apparatus with springs attached is utilized for exercises, offering a unique form of resistance training. “We use the reformer to stretch and strengthen the entire body while stabilizing joints,” Elisa explains. It engages the body’s powerhouse of deep abdominal and torso muscles directly relating to back and hip health, posture, and organ support.

Spine flexibility and balance is important to total body wellness. “In the variety of classes Club Pilates offers, the spine is moved in all planes of motion to build good posture, prevent pain, re-balance the body, and maintain healthy tissue between the vertebrae,” Lexi says. Balancing one’s level of strength with mobility is particularly important for injury prevention and
proprioception development.

Teacher Training Program

The Teacher Training Program at Club Pilates offers an opportunity for Pilates members to become certified instructors. Out of the Club Pilates training graduates, around 80 percent of them were current studio members. The certification program involves a minimum of 500 training hours as well as in-depth education with a master instructor on specialized equipment. Training hours include self-practice, observation, assistant teaching, and practice teaching with students individually. Instructors also study common injuries like disc or shoulder issues to maintain safety during strength-building for themselves and their future students.

“Club Pilates is truly my happy place,” says Wendy, a Teacher Training Program graduate. “I first started the program to enhance my own practice of Pilates. As I studied the comprehensive program, I realized I wanted to share it with others. As an instructor, you’re still learning, not only from those you teach, but from other instructors you share ideas with. I love working with the women and men I teach. Best of all is when they tell me how much better they feel and how their aches and pains are going away.”

Lexi has worked at Club Pilates for more than five years. “I was drawn to the warm, family atmosphere that Elisa and Nate had created,” she says. “The welcoming and uplifting environment made me feel like part of their family. We hope our members have the same experience, feeling valued and appreciated when they join our Pilates community.”

Lexi’s favorite part of the Club Pilates experience is the close and supportive relationships developed with other members. Eating lunch together after class and meeting for happy hour outside the studio are fun opportunities for catching up on each other’s life events.

“To have a job where you can effect change in someone’s daily life is an incredible honor,” Lexi says. “There’s no greater feeling than celebrating alongside a member who is noticing how Pilates is making a positive difference in their life.”
