Last month Spine Team Texas, a comprehensive spine center specializing in the conservative treatment of back and neck pain, opened their fifth North Texas clinic. The new office is Spine Team Texas’ first clinic in the North Dallas market, providing comprehensive spine care to the growing area with easy access from the George Bush Turnpike and East Renner Road (at Spectrum Boulevard).

“Our expansion has been carefully planned to reach the patient population currently underserved with regard to comprehensive spine care,” says Mark Hood, CEO of Spine Team Texas. “The North Dallas corridor is experiencing extensive growth within the medical community and we are proud to be a part of this growth. Our goal is to provide specialized spine care convenient to where people live.”

Ten years ago, the flagship Spine Team Texas office opened in Southlake, Texas. Since that time, the dedicated team of medical-based spine specialists has responded to the rapid growth of the area by opening additional offices to better treat their neighbors. The Richardson location was eagerly sought after due to the area’s concentration of specialized medical care surrounding the new Methodist Richardson Medical Center.

The opening of the North Dallas clinic in Richardson also welcomes Carver Wilkins, M.D., to the Spine Team Texas family of physicians and specialists. Dr. Wilkins will join two of their partner physicians: Anthony Berg, M.D., a board-certified spine pain anesthesiologist who is fellowship trained in interventional spine pain management; and Leonard Kibuule, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques; to provide the full range of surgical and nonsurgical options for patients.

Meet Carver Wilkins, M.D., physical medicine and rehabilitation physician

Carver Wilkins, M.D., joins Spine Team Texas after completing an interventional spine and sports medicine fellowship at Orthopaedic and Spine Specialists in York, Pennsylvania. He graduated from medical school in May 2009 and went on to complete his residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2013. He is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. A former college football player, Dr. Wilkins has a special interest in sports medicine

and senior adults. He will provide the full spectrum of nonsurgical spine care and diagnostics to Spine Team Texas patients.

Dr. Wilkins is specially trained in providing in-office, ultrasound-guided injections for spine pain relief. “Not only can patients receive much needed spine pain relief with conventional procedures, but I am specifically interested in ultrasound guided procedures in peripheral joints which often mimic or exacerbate spine pain. Because these are performed with local anesthetic only, ultrasound guidance is a viable option for patients who are not candidates for sedation, including pregnant women or the elderly.”

As a spine pain anesthesiologist, Dr. Berg, a partner at Spine Team Texas, also offers nonsurgical spine consultations for acute and chronic spine pain at the Richardson location. Dr. Kibuule, an experienced spine surgeon, provides options for traditional and minimally invasive spine surgery. To offer patients the most recent developments in spine surgery, Dr. Kibuule participates in clinical research studies utilizing innovative surgical techniques and procedures currently being developed. He is currently active in clinical research trials. If you’d like more information regarding current research trials they are participating, please contact the Spine Team Texas office.

Together Drs. Berg, Kibuule, and Wilkins work carefully with physical therapists in the local area that complement their philosophy. “Therapy is an important component in determining success of both surgical and nonsurgical treatments. It can ensure the best possible outcome of sustainable, long-term relief of many painful spine conditions,” said Dr. Wilkins.

The office’s strategic location at the George Bush Turnpike and East Renner Road (at Spectrum Boulevard) allows easy access for those residing in Rockwall, Dallas, Kaufman, and Collin counties. Spine Team Texas’s Richardson clinic is northeast of the new Methodist Richardson Medical Center and open full-time with spine specialists offering the full spectrum of spine care.
