Meet Dr. Helbert-Green
Dr. Helbert-Green knew from the time she was in high school that she wanted to be an optometrist. She was mentored by her own childhood Fort Worth optometrist Dr. Leonard Pack, and her parents, who are both teachers, always encouraged her to pursue her career goals. “I feel very fortunate to have had parents, teachers and my community to support me along the way,” Dr. Helbert-Green said. “Education is a natural passion and I take joy in supporting local teachers and schools. My staff also shares the passion as each are certified in their respective areas.” In 2014, Dr. Helbert-Green attained the status of Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, which requires rigorous testing in order to achieve.
After 13 years working in a group practice, she was able to realize her ultimate professional goal in 2003 when she opened her own practice in Colleyville, where she lives with her husband. Her two children attended GCISD and Covenant Christian and are now at UT Dental and Baylor University. “I enjoy providing eye care needs and services for friends and neighbors as well as my patients throughout the Metroplex,” she said.
Comprehensive Care for Eyes of All Ages
Colleyville Vision Associates offers comprehensive vision examinations and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide array of eye diseases, conditions and problems. “We use advanced diagnostic technology and vision correction products because we are committed to improving the quality of life for every patient we serve,” said Dr. Helbert-Green.
For example, Colleyville Vision Associates has invested in the latest and most cutting-edge technology that results in a highly personalized prescription—much more personalized than a fitting obtained in most other settings. “Instead of just measuring for a good fit, the equipment we use takes into account eye dominance, eye movement and even head movement patterns,” she explained. “This results in a more personalized prescription and, ultimately, gives people more success with their glasses.”
Dr. Helbert-Green has been seeing many of her patients for 25 years. “As some patients are maturing, I have developed a personal interest in geriatric optometry,” said Dr. Helbert-Green. She attends extra training and education in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions like dry eye, diabetes, macular degeneration, glaucoma and cataracts and thoroughly enjoys working with this growing population.
A Vision for Service
Colleyville Vision Associates has a passion for serving the community in multiple ways, and Dr. Helbert-Green feels strongly about giving back to the community that has supported her over the years. The team is continually involved in local service and fundraising opportunities, global missions, and local schools. They frequently participate in charity 5K fun runs, host frame shows supporting optometrist training in third-world countries and partner with nonprofit organizations to provide complimentary eye exams to women and children in distressing situations.
One of Dr. Helbert-Green’s favorite opportunities to give back is through a scholarship program she offers each year to a patient who is a graduating high school senior going on to pursue higher education. “We organized a writing contest about eye care and the submitted essays are scored by an unbiased panel of judges.” she said. Through this scholarship, Dr. Helbert-Green has help contribute to young people achieving their dreams of a college education.
Dr. Helbert-Green is excited about an upcoming mission trip to Belize this July in partnership with the Keller Lions Club and Keller United Methodist Church. Dr. Helbert-Green and two of her team members will travel to Belize to provide eye care to underprivileged citizens who would otherwise not have access to eye care.
