Graphic Designer/Production Artist

We’re looking for a part-time talented designer/production artist who can raise the bar at a fast-paced ad-driven publishing company. The designer works closely with client service managers and the creative director to design monthly client advertising, in-house materials, and various other projects. The right candidate will be excellent at problem-solving and critical thinking.

The candidate should be very comfortable with multi-tasking, be extremely organized, enjoy creating designs for a challenging marketplace, and have excellent written and verbal skills. Ability to be very creative but also take direction from sales and editorial to meet advertiser demands or service the needs of the story.

Excellent mechanical/production skills with experience in typography, layout and design. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work efficiently and manage multiple (short and long term) projects, while meeting deadlines. Needs to understand print communications and design.

Candidates must have a portfolio demonstrating a range of visual communication skills, strong typography, and exceptional creative talent. Must art direct, manage pre-press, traffic, and nurture creativity. Role requires one who is self-motivated, detail oriented, well organized, and able to work under deadlines. Candidate must have strong communication and presentations skills; a go-getter with a positive attitude, who doesn’t take her/himself too seriously.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

» Must have Bachelor’s degree or higher in design or related arts degree

» 1-4 years of professional PRINT graphic design/production experience. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience designing for a publication.

» Be skilled in InDesign and the Adobe Creative Suite

» Strong typographic skills, exhibit strict attention to detail, and have a passion for design and design culture.

» Solid organizational skills and the ability to meet strict deadlines (efficiently and independently) within a fast-paced environment.

» Be a team player, but also able to work independently

» Have a great eye for type and photography

» Have excellent communication skills

» Firm understanding of various file formats (PDF, JPG, GIF, PNG, EPS)

» Understanding of website design concepts is a plus

» This is a part-time position
