After earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cam Ngoc T. Dong, DDS immigrated to the United States in 2004 with a vision and a dream: To help people live healthier, happier lives using her knowledge and passion for dentistry.
“I was determined, stayed tenacious, and remained focused on achieving my dreams,” says Dr. Dong. Upon earning her second Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry in Houston, she opened her own dental practice, The Favour Dental, with a desire to treat patients with all whom she is.
When she reflects on her journey, Dr. Dong is grateful for her many blessings. “I thank God for my wonderful husband, Hien Ngo, and my dear children, Kathleen and Titus. I’m so grateful for my caring family who have supported and loved me every step of the way,” she says.
Dr. Dong is also grateful for all her mentors, especially Donald M. Belles, DDS, MS, program director for advanced prosthodontics and an associate professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Dentistry. Dr. Belles helped Dr. Dong navigate not just her studies and career, but also life in a new country. “I had many mentors, but no one influenced me as much as Dr. Belles,” she says. “From basic training to guiding me when I did not know where to go, he has significantly influenced my life.”
Dr. Dong is honored to have received many awards. A lifelong learner, she remains committed to staying current on the latest dental technology. She participates in continuing education and is constantly completing certification courses to constantly upgrade her skills and knowledge. Since 2016, Dr. Dong has also helped educate people all over the world on oral health. Her team collaborates with the VIETV Network on a show called “Dentistry & Life” where Dr. Dong answers dental questions from live callers.
It’s no simple task moving to a new country and opening a dental practice in the nation’s fourth-largest city, but Dr. Dong has always been up for a challenge. “I learned the language and the culture while raising two young kids,” she says. “I feel proud to have opened The Favour Dental. There is much competition and pressure, but that pressure motivates me to improve my skills and knowledge to provide patients with the best quality of care.”
Dr. Dong is a member of several dental organizations, including the American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, Texas Academy of General Dentistry, Academy of GP Orthodontics, International Congress of Implantology, and the American Academy of Implant Dentistry.
She devotes herself fully to her patients to provide them with her absolute best every day. Dr. Dong says, “I am grateful for all my patients and feel honored to be the best dentist I can be. I’m humbled and sincerely grateful for my patients’ support.”
