Brigette N. Koetter, DDS
Brigette Koetter is the architype of the lifelong learner. It’s one of the things she loves about her family dental practice. Constantly educating herself in the ever-changing world of dentistry allows her to offer her patients—from toddlers through seniors—the very latest technique, technology, and knowhow. One way she does this is through participation in a Spear study club, a community of dental professionals who meet to confer on cases and share knowledge.
“My group meets once a month to discuss complex cases, examine new technology, and hear from experts in our field,” Dr. Koetter said. “Our group includes specialist in the dental field, so I have their expertise to call on when I need it. I also take weekly online courses through the group. In my decade plus practicing dentistry, technology and information has expanded exponentially. The Spears group helps me stay ahead of the curve and give my patients the best dentistry available.”
Welcoming Dental Home
Dr. Koetter’s vision for her Dental Professionals of Rockwall is of a “dental home” for her family of patients. In an industry with historically high employee turnover, most of her staff has been with her for years, some since she opened her practice 11 years ago.
“I can’t say enough about my outstanding team,” she said. “I know when a patient calls our office or walks through our door they’re treated like family. I wish you could see our team meeting each morning when we go over the schedule for the day. We get so excited about who’s coming in. It’s a joy for me to come to work with this team every day and we want it to be a joy for our patients to come and see us, like a visit with old friends.”
Complete Family Dental Care
Dr. Koetter offers a complete range of dental service under one roof, so her patients can receive care where they already feel comfortable, including root canals, tooth extractions, nonsurgical gum treatment, even complete smile makeovers.
“We do a lot of cosmetic dentistry,” she said. “Our goal is never just a mouth that looks good but one that functions properly. When your teeth and mouth are working the way they should your cosmetics will last longer (without the wear a dysfunctional smile can bring) and teeth are easier to keep clean. Cleaner teeth help ward off gum disease which has been linked to an increase in heart trouble, dementia, and other life-threatening issues. We’re offering patients smiles that look healthy and help keep them healthy.”
Hope for Dental Chickens
Dr. Koetter understands that anxiety—even fear—at the thought of sitting the dentist’s chair is very real. “I feel thatas a woman, wife, and mother, I bring a special quality of compassion to dentistry,” she said. “When a patient is anxious, my team and I begin by letting them know it’s okay to be afraid—it’s normal and we understand. Then we explain each thing we’re going to do before we do it. I don’t like surprises myself and certainly wouldn’t want them in the dentist’s chair. With advancements in dental technology, there’s really no reason a visit to our office should be anything but pleasant. My most rewarding days are when a patient says, ‘I was extremely nervous about coming in, but this has been the best dental experience.’ I also love hearing from parents whose kids ask them, ‘When can I go back to Dr. Koetter?’
New Smile, New You
To help you to feel good about yourself and your smile, Dr. Koetter offers custom porcelain veneers to cover teeth stained from food, drink, tobacco, or medication, enhancing smiles and protecting teeth from further stain, wear, and grinding.
“I remove very little tooth structure and am sometimes able to introduce veneers with no prior preparation to teeth,” Dr. Koetter said. “Veneers can hide old fillings, chips, gaps, and misaligned teeth. After I help patients choose the proper shape and color for their complexion and face shape, each veneer is custom-made by our master ceramist. A computer program can even show patients how their new smile will look before we begin treatment.” She also offers little extras such as massaging dental chairs and TVs in each operatory.
Spirit of Excellence
Dr. Koetter earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma where she was honored as an OU scholar. She received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry where she was one of only three students recognized for senior departmental advanced studies program in orthodontics. Dr. Koetter was honored with the John C. and Ruberta Weaver Award for Excellence in Periodontics and Prosthodontics. She is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
When not on the job, she enjoys time with her husband, Paul, and their 13, 10, and one-year old kids. She serves on the National Charity League board through which she and her daughter worked 50 hours of community service last year. The Koetters are active members of First United Methodist Church in Rockwall. “Dentistry allows me time to care for my patients while still having plenty time for my kids and husband, and time to do my part in the community,” she said. “And something my dad taught me has certainly proven true—if you have a passion for the work you do, it will never feel like work.”
