It’s hard to predict what events will impact a person’s life most. For Brad Moss, DDS, PLLC, an accident during his teen years planted a seed that eventually grew into a fulfilling career. Dr. Moss recalled, “I was a pole vaulter in high school. After clearing my personal best, I landed funny on the mat and nearly bit off my tongue.” After many stitches and weeks with a swollen tongue, it eventually healed, but Dr. Moss walked away with a new perspective on the ability to communicate. He also learned what it took to put him back together.
Fast forward to his senior year when Dr. Moss made the acquaintance of a local jeweler. “I was instantly intrigued by the demanding and intricate attention to the smallest details that jewelry making requires,” he said. “Working with him, I discovered I enjoy working with my hands in intricate ways.”
Dr Moss’ proficiency with detailed hand work, his inherited love of caregiving, and his lifelong passion for learning have served him well in his nearly 30-year dental career. Nestled in the heart of Southlake, Dr. Moss provides a full menu of family dental services in a relaxed, safe, and nurturing environment. He works with a talented, supportive patient care team and serves an ever-growing patient base that often includes three and four generations of families.
“Preventive care is a hallmark of our practice,” says Dr. Moss. “By being our patients’ dental advocate and educating them on the conditions of their mouth, we together can be more proactive, helping preserve natural, healthy teeth for a lifetime. Many patients who come into my practice are unaware that they have some form of gum disease. Current research continues to link gum infections with increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, overall systemic health, and most recently, Alzheimer’s. These are even more reasons to be diligent about your bi-yearly cleanings and exams. A healthy smile can contribute to your overall health.”
Dr. Moss and his team employ the latest dental technology including digital X-rays, intraoral cameras, comfortable injections, CariVu for early cavity detection, and minimally invasive air abrasion to remove compromised tooth material, often without injections. But more importantly, they offer the human element—an environment where the patient always comes first and where time with the dentist doesn’t begin and end with dentistry. Dr. Moss believes the ability to be engaged and truly listen to your patient is one of the most important attributes of a healthcare provider.
Dr. Moss and his wife, Polly, a registered nurse, are members of a team called Faith in Practice, the Chenault medical mission group that travels to remote villages in Guatemala providing dentistry and medical care to underserved people there. “It’s our joy and privilege to work with the people of Guatemala,” says Dr. Moss. The Moss’ married children, Jacob, Maggie and Elly, have pursued healthcare careers, working as a clinical lab scientist, registered nurse, and physician assistant. This year their youngest daughter Elly, a physician assistant, will be joining her parents medical / dental mission trip with Faith in practice.
