As a boy, Jeffrey Urieto was greatly influenced by his mom, who worked as a nurse in a developing country. “I remember going to her clinic and seeing her in her nurse uniform taking care of patients and interacting with doctors and nurses,” he said. “One of the doctors took me under his wing and mentored me at a young age and it bolstered my desire to go into medicine.”
There was little doubt in anyone’s mind that young Jeffrey had the personality for medicine too. Naturally friendly and a born caregiver, his desire from an early age was to help people. That propensity only grew as he completed his schooling. “It might sound cliché,” he said, “but I’ve always enjoyed personal interactions. I figured medicine was a way to get more of it while also being part of a person’s healing process. I have since realized that I love being a part of the movement to promote prevention, before people need healing.” None of this is lost on Urieto’s patients who are the beneficiary of his gregarious and gentle bed-side manners and his insatiable quest for medical knowledge. As a primary care physician, he is there to meet the medical needs of every member of the family.
Dr. Urieto begins each morning with a prayer for the new day ahead, for the patients he’ll encounter, and for his family. “I was taught to put first things first,” he said. “When I begin by giving my day to God—my thoughts, my hands, my words, my relationships—that’s when I can be the doctor, husband, father, and friend He wants me to be.”
When not on the job, Dr. Urieto enjoys tennis, soccer, golf, cooking, and spending time with his wife and their baby son, Isaiah. “My wife’s family is in the area, so we get to do lots of family get-togethers with them,” he said. “I also donate my time when I can to United Christian Fellowship in Arlington.”
“Our goal in moving to this area is to grow with Mansfield,” Dr. Urieto said. “I believe that primary care physicians are an essential part of any community. My family and I look forward to becoming more interwoven with this wonderful community.”
