Dr. Ken Looney attributes his gift for creating strong connections and lasting relationships with his patients to growing up in North Texas. His warm personality and genuine interest in helping others make him a natural with people of all ages and walks of life. Having recently joined Baylor Family Medicine at Highland Village, many patients followed Dr. Looney to his new practice home, including multigenerational family members. He also strengthened another connection when he joined the Baylor-affiliated practice. He went to medical school in San Antonio with Dr. Trisha Smith, who also practices at Baylor Family Medicine at Highland Village.
“I’m proud to be associated with Baylor Family Medicine at Highland Village and am impressed with Baylor’s vision for the future,” Dr. Looney says. “It’s also great to work with Dr. Smith. We share a similar style and approach, and we consult with one another on complex cases.”
Developing a Partnership with Patients
Dr. Looney views his patients as partners in their healthcare. He helps them control and manage disease and chronic conditions as well as maintain wellness through reinforcing healthy habits, patient education, and appropriate screening and immunizations.
“Patients are ultimately responsible for their health and wellbeing,” says Dr. Looney, who believes preventive care is important to maximize a patient’s health and quality of life. “When they leave the office, they need to follow through—take medication as prescribed, make healthy lifestyle choices, and more. I’m their advocate, facilitator, and partner, not a dictator. We work things out together. We’ll go through options and I explain things in understandable terms. Then we develop a treatment plan together.”
