Dr. Luke Bailey has unbridled enthusiasm for the work he does at Bailey Orthodontics. His loyal patient base — ranging from age three to 93 — knows how deeply invested he is in the treatment they receive. This summer, this enthusiasm grew as he welcomed another doctor to his dental family. “My team and I take the trust of our patients and families seriously,” he said. “We searched for more than a year and interviewed countless applicants to find the absolute best addition to our team — someone who’ll help me provide exceptional care and shares our patient-first mentality. We’ve absolutely found her!”
Dr. Bailey says Dr. Brittany Spruiell is all these things and more. “From my first meeting with Dr. Britt, I knew she’d be the perfect fit,” he said. “She has a remarkable ability to put her patients at ease with her calm, caring demeanor, and our patients just love her. Dr. Britt’s presence will allow me to do even more of what I love — spend additional quality time discussing treatment plans, progress, and results with my patients and their favorite smiles.”
The Bailey Ortho Difference
Bailey Orthodontics is no ordinary orthodontic practice. In fact, they approach orthodontics a bit differently. “We’re not teeth first here,” Dr. Bailey explained. “We’re health, airway, and breathing first. Then we work our way outward and end up with a beautiful smile.” Every patient who seeks treatment at Bailey Orthodontics receives a full evaluation of their breathing and airway.
“In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, it was considered routine to extract teeth and make the dental arch smaller before beginning orthodontic correction,” Dr. Bailey said. “Dr. Britt and I, however, approach things differently. While extractions may be indicated in some cases, in our practice, they’re exceedingly rare. With our specialized approach and diagnostic tools, we’re able to achieve a beautiful, healthy smile that also allows us to avoid potential airway, breathing, and sleep disorders that could be worsened by unnecessary extractions of teeth and resulting orthodontic movements.”
Premier 3D Imaging
Using sophisticated dental imaging systems such as the i-CAT CBCT machine, Dr. Bailey and his team can create high-resolution 3D images of patients’ teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. These specialized images allow Drs. Bailey and Spruiell to display a visual diagnosis of the bones, teeth, nerves, sinuses, airway, and structures of the patient’s head, face, neck, and jaw.
“With this quick and comfortable scan, we’re able to generate all the images we need, without the need to obtain multiple images separately,” Dr. Bailey said. “Unlike traditional X-rays, the i-CAT captures images without invasive and uncomfortable devices placed inside the mouth, making them more comfortable for patients. If we find airway issues affecting the patient’s quality of life and sleep, we can refer them to an ENT, oral surgeon, sleep medicine specialist, allergist, or another provider who can help them. Once everything is working correctly, we can talk about obtaining that gorgeous smile.”
Dr. Bailey has experienced — and pioneered — remarkable advancements during his years as a board-certified orthodontist. “Historically, orthodontics was primarily about lining up teeth to make them straight then sending the patient on their way,” he said. “We understand now that orthodontics is about much more than just straight teeth. Our job is to help things develop as a child grows. Often, by seeing a patient at a young age, around six or seven, we can reduce their need for braces or make it easier when treatment is indicated.”
Although Drs. Bailey and Spruiell see patients of all ages, there is an optimal time to initially evaluate patients. “The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial orthodontic evaluation around age seven, but we often like to see patients as early as three or four,” Dr. Bailey said. “Early evaluation provides timely detection of problems and greater opportunity for more effective treatment. It allows us to guide growth and development to prevent serious problems later. Or we may just monitor growth and development and begin treatment when the time is right.”
A complimentary new patient exam can be the first important step toward:
- Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth
- Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth
- Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
- Preserving space for unerupted teeth
- Reducing the need for tooth removal
- Reducing treating time with braces
Orthodontics at Any Age
You’re never too old to have a gorgeous, fully functioning smile. “Orthodontic treatment isn’t just for kids or teenagers,” Dr. Bailey said. “About 50% of my patients are adults — some in their 70s and 80s. Orthodontic treatment isn’t just designed to improve the appearance of your smile but to improve the health of your teeth and gums as well. Orthodontic treatment can help you avoid tooth decay, gum and bone loss, irregular wear of tooth enamel, and TMJ/TMD pain later in life. We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed to give adults a dramatically different smile and healthier bite.” From traditional metal or innovative clear braces to the more aesthetic Invisalign clear aligners, Bailey Orthodontics can help you achieve and maintain a beautiful, healthy smile at any age.
The Team to Trust
Since 1987, Bailey Orthodontics has served the Coppell and now the Flower Mound community, where they live, play, worship, volunteer, and serve. “This community is our home,” Dr. Bailey said. “We have team members who’ve been with us since the beginning and many others for decades. We’ve watched one another’s kids grow up just as we’ve watched our patients grow up. Some are even bringing their own kids to us now. From the beginning, we’ve sought to make the community a better place. Our team is culturally diverse as well as diverse in age, but we all work toward the same goal of making sure every visit to Bailey Orthodontics is the best it can be.” Find out more at FMortho.com.
