Ryan Gebhart holds an MBA in healthcare administration from Baylor University and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. His career at Baylor Scott & White Health started as an administrative resident. Before becoming responsible for the overall strategy and performance of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Centennial, he served in multiple leadership roles at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Plano.
Why did you decide to go into healthcare, and what do you enjoy most about your role?
At my core, I am a people person and I have a passion for helping others. My role allows me to first and foremost, serve others every day.
Healthcare has allowed me to fulfill what I believe to be my calling. I enjoy building relationships and getting to know our team members. These relationships are invaluable to leading a team and keeping us aligned to our mission and vision. As a leader, I believe that if we take care of our people first, they will take care of our patients. This is mission-driven for me, much more than a job, and I feel so fortunate to serve others through the system’s ministry of healing.
Why is a positive culture important to the hospital’s success, and how do you describe BSW Centennial’s culture?
A positive culture improves teamwork, raises the morale, enhances retention of the workforce, and most importantly keeps our team and patients safe. Recognizing most people enter healthcare because they care deeply about others, we strive to foster a culture of family and taking care of our patients as though they were family.
Our strong, family-oriented culture at BSW Centennial enables our team to feel supported, safe, and fulfilled. Fundamentally, it’s about loving people and treating others as you would want to be treated, with the leadership team setting the tone. What are some of the hospital’s recent accomplishments you’re most proud of, and what do they mean to patients and the community?
The hospital continues to earn various recognitions and accomplishments that I am very proud of: Level III Trauma Center, Level III Maternal Center, Primary Stroke Center, ANCC Pathway to Excellence, Primary Heart Attack Center, High-Performing in U.S. News & World Report for various procedures and conditions, and many more. While I am proud of these designations, I am most proud of how these signify the quality of care we provide and the focus on good processes, quality standards, and culture.
What should people consider when choosing a hospital for their care or their family’s care?
The most important thing to consider when choosing a hospital is that you trust the team taking care of you and your loved one. At our hospital, we strive to care for every patient that comes through our door as if they were our own family. Our nurses and doctors on our medical staff have our patients’ best interest in mind throughout the entire care journey.
