When it’s time to consult an orthopedic surgeon regarding potential total joint replacement, you don’t want to settle for anyone other than the best. Experience, compassion, and sound patient care matter when making a decision for hip, knee, or shoulder replacement. R. Mills Roberts, MD, of Arlington Orthopedics in the Irving office, has 18 years of experience in North Texas and the reputation as one of the finest orthopedic surgeons in the area. His consultative approach and dedication to patient education allow patients to choose whether joint replacement surgery is right for them.
Surgery and Total Joint Replacement
Total joint replacement is a last resort after low impact exercise, physical therapy, and medications. When osteoarthritis becomes unbearable and joints wear thin, Dr. Roberts develops customized plans for patients to best fit each patient’s specific condition and needs. If it is determined that minimally invasive hip replacement is necessary, Dr. Roberts and his staff ensure each patient is educated in their choices and has realistic expectations for outcomes and recovery.
Using the latest advancements in hip replacement, Dr. Roberts works to ensure that his patients have surgery options that allow for the fastest recovery times. The new Anterior Supine Intermuscular (ASI) hip replacement is a superior surgical technique in many ways. Potential benefits of this technique are shorter hospital stays, earlier mobilization, and less blood loss and pain. The ASI technique is advantageous to patients who would not be considered for other minimally invasive options due to obesity or other considerations. Dr. Roberts specializes in anterior hip replacement, total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, and shoulder replacement.
Arthroscopic Surgery and Musculoskeletal Injury Repair
Dr. Roberts is committed to sports medicine and injury repair, and focuses his practice on ligament reconstruction in addition to joint replacement. When patients need surgery to repair a torn tendon, rotator cuff or ACL reconstruction, Dr. Roberts has the experience and skill to surgically correct these injuries so that patients can return to activities they enjoy. In addition, these procedures can allow patients to live and work pain-free. “I see patients with anything from sprains to broken bones or injuries requiring joint reconstruction. My goal is to get all of my patients, whether they are injured athletes or those who are looking to improve their quality of life with joint replacement, the best care and quickest recovery time possible, so that they are back to their normal activities as soon as possible,” said Dr. Roberts.
A North Texas native, Dr. Roberts graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in biomedical science. From there, he studied at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his internship in general surgery at Methodist Medical Center in Dallas, his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and his fellowship at University of California San Diego with San Diego Arthroscopic Surgery & Sports Medicine.
