Frank Rodriguez, MD
Doctors help people every day of course, but Dr. Frank Rodriguez is going out of his way to improve life for more than his own patients. He is, in fact, going all the way to Boston to raise money for a charity that is dear to his heart. This April 20th, Dr. Rodriguez will not only run his eighth Boston Marathon, but he will be raising money to benefit low-income students through Hale Reservation Inc.
Hale Reservation Inc. is a private, non-profit organization that offers educational and recreational opportunities that develop self-confidence, inspire a passion for learning and encourage an appreciation for the natural environment. Their Hale Outdoor Learning Adventures (HOLA) program encourages Boston youth to lead active, healthy lifestyles, and resonates with Dr. Rodriguez because of his own lifelong love of the outdoors. “I loved exploring the outdoors when I was a kid,” explains Rodriguez. “Those carefree and adventurous days gave me confidence and helped make me the orthopedic surgeon I am today.”
The HOLA program specifically addresses the “summer learning slide” that most adversely affects low-income students. It’s designed to encourage academic gains and develop social-emotional skills during the summer months so students are ready to begin the next grade in the fall.
“Every child should be – and needs to be – outdoors,” emphasizes Rodriguez, “because exploring and enjoying nature provides an ideal opportunity to learn life lessons. I’m running this year’s Boston Marathon to give this opportunity to as many children as possible.”
Rodriguez may be doing the running, but everyone else can play a part in supporting this important cause. Dr. Rodriguez has offered to match dollar for dollar any amount donated, and stresses that donations of any size are welcome and greatly appreciated. “It’s easy to take outdoor activities for granted here in Texas. But in a large city like Boston, so many young girls and boys don’t have a chance to explore and experience nature. Simple activities such as fishing, swimming or just running around outdoors – they don’t get to do that. I hope by partnering with HOLA, we will be able to stimulate these kids to learn more.”
Making a donation is as easy as visiting www.everydayhero.com and searching for Frank Rodriguez. Along with your financial support, you can leave a message of encouragement.
When he’s not devoting his time to charitable interests, Dr. Rodriguez is dedicated to making life more enjoyable for those who suffer from hip, knee, shoulder, or pain. A fellowship trained and board certified orthopedic surgeon, in practice with Arlington Orthopedic Associates at both their Arlington and Mansfield clinics, he specializes in sports medicine and joint reconstruction. “It is very gratifying,” says Dr. Rodriguez, “to help someone in pain be able to resume their active lifestyle.”
Whether you need help yourself with orthopedic pain, or want to help support a worthwhile charity, Dr. Rodriguez would love to hear from you.
