There’s nothing like a good education to start a person on the road to a fruitful future! And it all starts from those early classes in pre-K. Children are the future and teachers are the architects of their future. We can all remember some of the educators who had an influence on us. This sentiment is always on the minds of educators at Coram Deo, a local non-profit faith-based Christian academy that strives to provide area students with foundational education.

Dr. Alan Marshall, retired Air Force Colonel and former U2 pilot, is President of the magnificently designed learning institution. Dr. Marshall graduated from the United States Air Academy with Honors and a double major in astronautical engineering and mathematics. An essential element of the Coram Deo education process is parental involvement during days when students work from home. In order to keep distractions to a minimum, cell phones are not permitted in classrooms. Moreover, students wear similar uniforms which serve to keep them focused on studies, rather than fashion.

The mission at Coram Deo is to “Train ethical servant-leaders and wise thinkers who will shape culture for the glory of God.” The school educates youth in a historic Christian worldview through a rigorous classical curriculum and partners with parents committed to their Biblically ordained role as the primary instructors of their children. Students attend 2 or 3 days a week (350 on any given day) and continue their studies at home on off-school days, with parent participation.

Incidentally, the academic achievement at Coram Deo indicates that 100 percent of their students are university bound after high school. Their average ACT score is 27.8, while the average at the US Naval Academy is 28. In order to maintain their independence, they do not accept funds from federal, state, or local governments. However, they do accept tax-deductible donations. The school does not have a cafeteria, so students bring their own lunches, or the food can be ordered and delivered by certain contractors. They also have a huge multi-purpose indoor basketball court with a stage for student events. Moreover, there’s a fully-equipped workout room.
