Jeffrey W. Henke, MD, FACS, FASMBS
At WLS Surgical Associates, PLLC, Jeff Henke MD, FACS, FASMBS and his highly trained team provide compassionate, personalized care for each patient. Dr. Henke cares for patients with a variety of medical and surgical issues, from gallbladder disease to obesity. No matter what medical problems individuals may face, Dr. Henke ensures that every person feels comfortable, educated, and optimistic about their care plan.
WLS Surgical Associates offers a full spectrum of bariatric services, including gastric bypass, lap band maintenance, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisional procedures. The practice also provides general surgery procedures for hernias, gallbladder, appendix, and reflux. “We offer robotic and laparoscopic surgery and follow enhanced recovery protocols to minimize pain,” says Dr. Henke. “We try to minimize disruption to life as much as possible.”
In practice for nearly seven years, Dr. Henke is a board certified surgeon, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He has received the latest training in robotics, advanced laparoscopy, and single incision surgery, and has risen as one of the country’s leading surgeons for minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
Dr. Henke takes a hands-on approach, getting to know each patient personally by developing meaningful relationships. He’s part of each patient’s life from the initial consultation to surgery and beyond, ensuring that any questions and concerns are addressed.
“I see patients for years and want to make sure they don’t have any barriers to reach their goals. I focus on the surgery and ultimately the aftercare to help people succeed,” he says. “When patients come in, they see me each visit. I spend as long as they like talking about what’s going on in their life that may inhibit their weight loss. It’s not a quick ‘hi and bye.’ Obesity is a chronic disease that we have found currently is best treated with surgery. It isn’t taking the easy way out. It is a tool to help those that have struggled with maintainable weight loss. I invest in my patients’ health for the long-term.”
Dr. Henke and his multidisciplinary team work together to ensure each patient receives the care they expect and deserve. “I see weight-loss surgery as a way of treating many different problems, from high blood pressure to diabetes and cancer,” he says. “I help people who have worked hard to lose weight and haven’t been successful due to their own body chemistry. There are many genetic and environmental factors at play when people are overweight. I help them find success, so they don’t feel the societal stigma of being overweight.”
For Dr. Henke, it’s rewarding when he can help patients achieve a better quality of life. “I have one patient who was watching his two boys grow up and felt like he was always on the sidelines. Now he’s coaching their teams and feels really involved,” he says. “I also have patients who are excited about simpler things like crossing their legs or flying without using a seat belt extender. It’s great when patients can stop their insulin, blood pressure, or other medications and do things they haven’t been able to do for years and regain their life.”
If you’ve been struggling with weight loss and want to get back to the things you love, take the first step toward a healthier you. Dr. Henke is ready to help you succeed for the long haul.
