Texas Back Institute has been a leader in high-quality multidisciplinary spine care for over 40 years. Known for providing superior and innovative care for their patients, they are one of the largest freestanding multidisciplinary academic spine centers in the world.

It was this remarkable reputation and Texas Back’s global leadership and outreach that first garnered the attention of neurosurgeon Dr. Thomas Kosztowski. Ultimately, it fueled his decision to leave Johns Hopkins and join the Texas Back Institute’s highly regarded team.

“For years, I’ve respected Texas Back Institute for their exceptional clinical outcomes and commitment to teaching and research,” says Dr. Kosztowski.

The collaboration with a team of such breadth and depth of talent as Texas Back offers provides Dr. Kosztowski the opportunity to treat very complex brain and spinal problems.

Texas Back Institute Enhances its Services

As a neurosurgeon who performs both brain and spine surgery, Dr. Kosztowski arrived at the Texas Back Institute at an ideal time. Dedicated to meeting the growing needs of North Texas and beyond, Texas Back Institute has added complex brain surgery to its services.

“In addition to brain surgery, as a neurosurgeon, I bring a bit of a different perspective that complements what my fellow orthopedic surgeons offer,” Dr. Kosztowski explains. “I enjoy the highly collaborative environment fostered at Texas Back. Here, it’s not about an individual’s success, but the group’s success. We often discuss ultra-complex cases within our surgical committee to tailor the best surgical treatment plans for our patients. Especially in extremely complex surgeries, it’s not uncommon for our neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons to work together to provide multidisciplinary care to achieve the best outcomes possible.”

Beyond the Walls of Texas Back Institute

In addition to seeing patients at Texas Back Institute, Dr. Kosztowski works with affiliated hospitals to manage brain and spine trauma in the area’s major trauma centers. He performs complex cranial and spine surgeries utilizing the most cutting-edge technologies.
