Susan K. Pedott, DMD
Top Doc Susan Pedott, DMD, found her calling in dentistry after she completed her bachelor’s degree, majoring in sculpture at College of Wooster in Ohio. While working in a dental office as a dental assistant in New York City, a patient who was a dentist commented that she would make a great dentist. This single remark planted a seed that grew into a life’s passion.
After earning her DMD at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston in 1995, Dr. Pedott completed two years of postgraduate education at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry, receiving a certificate in endodontics in 1997. That year she moved to Pennsylvania to start practicing. While there, she taught clinical endodontics to residents in general practice residency programs at Lehigh Valley hospitals.
She moved to Houston in 2009 to be closer to her parents and is happy to call Texas and the Houston area her permanent home.
As an endodontist, Dr. Pedott specializes in diagnosing and treating tooth pain and performing root canal treatment. Her wealth of knowledge, credentials, and years of experience are impressive, but Dr. Pedott’s patients value her beyond this. They appreciate the undivided, one-on-one attention she provides, as well as her calm, reassuring chairside manner and down-to-earth personality. Kids and adults alike find her comforting and easy to talk with.
Dr. Pedott also helps remove the “fear factor” from the idea of getting a root canal. She reassures her patients that modern root canals performed by a true dental specialist with extensive formal postgraduate training, such as herself, are not scary.
Dr. Pedott also possesses an artist’s eye and she is a perfectionist—two important qualities to look for in a dentist. Additionally, she believes in using conservative measures whenever possible.
“Even with the advent of dental implants, there’s nothing better than saving your natural teeth. Knowing I’ve helped preserve a patient’s tooth is a great feeling.”
Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Pedott takes numerous continuing education courses annually to stay at the forefront of her field. And she’s up-to-date on technological advances that help her deliver an outstanding level of care and better outcomes. For example, she uses 3D dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans which provide superior images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways, and bone. “With CBCT scans I can often see things I couldn’t see on 2D digital X-rays,” she comments.
New patients come to her as referrals from area dentists as well as patients who refer friends and family knowing they will be in the best of hands with Dr. Pedott. She accepts most major dental insurance plans.
“Patients often have a great deal of anxiety about root canal therapy and leave after treatment with a new and positive perspective,” says Dr. Pedott, “I’ve had a root canal myself. When you’re being treated by an experienced endodontist, a root canal doesn’t have to be a traumatic, painful experience.”
