Jontel D. Pierce, MD
Helping others is a passion that runs deep for Dr. Jontel Pierce, who decided to become a physician when she was in kindergarten. “I went on a field trip to a children’s hospital, and when I saw how much doctors help people, I decided to be one,” says Dr. Pierce. “My mother, a nurse, encouraged me, and from that point on, everything I did—summer camp, getting good grades—revolved around one day practicing medicine.”
Today, as a board certified neurologist, Dr. Pierce sees adolescent, adult, and elderly patients and spends ample time with them to provide the best possible treatment with caring compassion. She treats everything from chronic headaches and migraines to concussions—which are often related to sports injuries in younger patients and falls in older patients—dementia, and a host of neurological disorders. She believes in treating the source of a condition versus trying medication “just to see if it will work,” and asks questions and listens to her patients to understand their lifestyles and potential triggers. Then she develops a comprehensive, customized treatment plan.
“I view each patient as a whole person—I just don’t see the disease or condition,” Dr. Pierce says. “Poor eating habits, lack of sleep, and stress, for example, may contribute to a flare up. There’s often a natural way to improve a problem versus prescribing medication right away.”
Dr. Pierce also strives to be accessible to patients in a community where it can take weeks to see a board certified neurologist. Same and next day appointments are typically available, and she welcomes patients on Saturday by appointment.
Patients in turn love Dr. Pierce and lavish her with glowing reviews like this one from Gabriela.
“Highly recommend Dr. Pierce. She is very dedicated and takes her time in answering your questions and concerns. Very professional bedside manner and is compassionate about her patients. I recommend Dr. Pierce to any of my family members or friends because she is serious about her patients and joins them in their journey in finding and treating the cause of their neurological disorder. If it comes to something that is out of her hands, she will refer you to another specialist who will dig deeper into the problem and she will follow up with you to make sure you’re being taken care of. Don’t take my word about her… find out for yourself.”
Outside of work, Dr. Pierce, a Sugar Land resident, spends time with her husband and their two girls, ages seven and three, practicing yoga and trying world cuisines. “It’s a joy to serve my community by providing personalized neurological care.”
