Kristofer Sivanich, DDS
A pediatric dentist is a specialist dedicated to the oral health of children, from infancy through the teenage years. Pediatric dentists complete a minimum of two extra years of training after earning a dental degree (DDS or DMD). During this time, they focus their practice solely on children. The very young, pre-teens, and teens all need different approaches in dealing with their behavior, in guiding their dental growth, and in helping them avoid future dental problems.
At Heath Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Kristofer Sivanich and his staff provide full-service dental care for children and for patients with special needs.
One of their primary goals is to educate children and their parents about the best ways to take care of the child’s teeth and gums to ensure optimal dental health and prevent the onset of dental disease.
Meet Dr. Sivanich
Dr. Kris, a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a board certified pediatric dentist who knew from an early age that he wanted dentistry to be his life’s profession.
At the University of Wisconsin, he majored in bacteriology and after graduation taught sixth grade students in one of the nation’s most hard-pressed areas, the South Side of Chicago. While teaching he developed a passion for working with children and decided to return to his native Minnesota to study at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
After dental school, Dr. Kris received a commission in the U.S. Army, and while stationed at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, he met his wife, Cynthia. He was honored to serve our troops, but he knew he was missing something in his dental practice. The missing element was working with children.
Pediatric Training and Practice
While still in the Army, Dr. Kris gained admission to one of the nation’s most prestigious pediatric dental residencies at the Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. During his residency, he received training at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, getting specialized training in caring for children, especially those with special needs.
After leaving the Army, Dr. Kris opened his pediatric dental clinic in Heath, and in his practice, he is affiliated with the Children’s Medical Center.
Like many of us, children are often anxious about dental care, and at Heath Pediatric Dentistry Dr. Kris uses various forms of behavior management, including sedations and treatment in the operating room to ease the apprehensions of young children and those with special needs. All forms of sedation used at Heath Pediatric Dentistry are approved by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and are safe, non-addictive ways of calming young dental patients.
